Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has been ranked first in the spread of coronavirus among states in India. Kerala is also 4th in the number of daily cases reported.

Kerala is recording a 3.4 percent increase in the number of patients per day. Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh are close behind with 3 percent. Only Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are ahead of Kerala.

In Andhra, the number of tests conducted per day is much higher. Kerala was targeting to conduct 50,000 tests per day. Kerala conducted over 50,000 tests on Wednesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Health Department is of the opinion that the number of cases per day could increase to 10,000 in the coming days. The number of people under treatment could rise to 75,000.

The number of cases has increased after Onam. The government observed that gathering of people over protests has also contributed to the increasing number of cases.

“Though it is against the law and despite repeated requests, it is not right for people to gather around in the name of protests. If this continues, the number of patients will increase further,” said Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.
