Kochi: The Kerala High Court has denounced the police, public prosecutor and trial court judge while quashing the verdict of the trial court which acquitted all accused in the Walayar case.

The HC pointed out the lapses of the police in the preliminary investigation into the case. Apart from the lapses on the part of the police, the judgement of the HC also noted the lapses committed by the prosecutor and trial court while handling the case, informed government prosecutor Adv Nazar.

The government has filed appeals in 6 cases in the High Court. 

The court has approved the government’s appeals seeking retrial and reinvestigation on demand of the probe agency.

Dismissing the verdict of the trial court which acquitted the accused, the HC forwarded the case to a special court for retrial.

The High Court also directed to grant permission for reinvestigation into the case if the probe agency seeks for the same in the lower court.

The HC also informed that new witnesses will be added to the case and rehearing of the listed witnesses will be allowed as per the demand of the prosecutor.

Director of Kerala Judicial Academy has been asked to provide training to the judges in the POCSO court for avoiding mistakes. Chief Secretary has also directed to avoid lapses on the  part of prosecutors.

The accused were directed to appear before the court on January 20.
