Kochi: A major development has unfolded in the Walayar case as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a supplementary chargesheet, naming the parents of the two deceased girls as accused. This chargesheet was submitted by the CBI's Thiruvananthapuram unit to the CBI court in Kochi, covering six cases related to the deaths of the Walayar sisters.

The CBI investigation reveals that the parents were complicit in the deaths of their daughters. Charges include abetment to suicide, abetment to rape, and suppression of evidence of sexual assault. Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have also been invoked. The investigation suggests that the parents were aware of the repeated sexual abuse suffered by their daughters but failed to take action.

Initial Chargesheet and Further Investigation

Earlier, the CBI had concluded that the deaths were suicides and filed an initial chargesheet. However, after a court directive, further investigation led to the submission of this supplementary chargesheet, implicating the parents.

The tragic deaths occurred on January 13 and March 4, 2017, when the sisters, aged 13 and 9, were found hanging in a single-room shed in Walayar.
