In a world that often measures success by paychecks and possessions, a young couple from Kerala has rewritten the script — choosing freedom, minimalism, and purpose over corporate comfort.

Meet Sangeeth and Kavya, high-school sweethearts from Pattambi, Palakkad, who traded their stable jobs in Bengaluru for an open-ended adventure across India.

Over the past two years, they’ve travelled over 45,000 kilometres in their trusty 4x4 SUV, documenting their journey under the Instagram handle @lifeonroads_, where more than 2.4 lakh followers tune in for inspiration.

“No PhD or master’s degree can teach you what the roads can. Travelling grounded us and taught us to live minimally,” says Sangeeth.

From Office Desks to Open Roads

Both Sangeeth, an MBA graduate, and Kavya, a dairy technologist, caught the travel bug during college. What began as weekend camping trips soon became a calling. After years of juggling work and travel, they realised the 9-to-5 life no longer fulfilled them.

Post-pandemic, the couple decided to take a leap of faith. They left their corporate jobs, began freelancing for flexibility, and converted their Force Gurkha into a cozy mobile home — all on a modest budget of just ₹20,000.

Travelling Sustainably — One Mile at a Time

Fifteen days after their wedding, Sangeeth and Kavya hit the road with their beloved dog, Drogo. Every morning, they drive 400–500 kilometres, camping under the stars in remote corners of India — from mountains to deserts, beaches to forests.

What makes their journey remarkable isn’t just the miles they cover but how consciously they travel. They have been cooking all their meals, avoiding takeaways and restaurants for over two years.

Their daily expenses rarely exceed ₹300, and they ensure zero waste by carrying trash bags and disposing of waste responsibly.

“We grew up in families where nothing went to waste. Sustainability wasn’t a concept — it was a way of life,” says Kavya.

Rooted in a Greener Mission

Their travels also made them witness the changing climate up close. Rising heat and dry landscapes inspired a new goal — to plant trees wherever they go.

In just seven months, they’ve planted 10,000 saplings across India. Now, they’re dreaming bigger — a mission to plant one lakh trees in the next five years.

“Each of us can do something. For us, this is our small step towards healing the planet,” says Sangeeth.

Lessons from the Road

Life on the road isn’t always easy. They’ve faced curious villagers, long nights under the threat of wild animals — even a close brush with a leopard in Uttarakhand! Yet, every challenge has made them stronger.

“Travelling teaches you patience, resilience, and gratitude. You learn to live with less — and realise how much more that gives you,” Kavya says with a smile.

Their story is a celebration of courage — the courage to walk away from convention, follow your heart, and find joy in the journey itself.

“We may earn less than others,” says Kavya, “but we’re rich in experiences — and that’s what truly counts.”
