Kottayam: The Kerala Congress (M) is eyeing for two seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The decision was taken after the parliamentary party meeting held on Monday and the steering committee meeting on Tuesday shared a similar sentiment in this regard.
The party, which has a sitting seat in Kottayam, plans to demand another seat in Pathanamthitta.
Currently, Kerala Congress (M) has three MLAs in the Pathanamthitta constituency limit, one each from Kanjirappally, Ranni and Poonjar. According to the party, it is eligible to seek another seat in the front.
The party plans to take a strong stance on issues such as protected areas, wildlife encroachment and falling prices of agricultural crops.
“The union government should announce separate packages to aid the rubber farmers who are in crisis. The minimum support price of rubber should be hiked to Rs 250 per kilogram on account of the agricultural expenses and production costs,” they added.
Meanwhile, party chairman Jose K Mani said that the BJP’s move to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) aimed at religious polarisation would divide the country. He made the remarks while delivering the presidential address at the steering committee meeting.
The meeting was attended by Minister Roshy Augustine, party vice chairman Thomas Chazhikadan MP and chief whip Dr N Jayaraj among others.
