Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front will be weaker without the Kerala Congress, opined CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.
“Kerala Congress is one of the party in UDF that has huge followers. Congress leadership failed to resolve the issues within Kerala Congress,” he stated in an article written on the CPM mouthpiece Deshabhimani remembering P K Chandranandan, leader of the Punnapra - Vayalar uprising.
The UDF had ousted Kerala Congress (Mani) Jose K Mani faction for defying its directive to vacate the president's post of the Kottayam district panchayat.
Congress lacked a central leadership. This was reflected in the recent happening. UDF as an association and as a political alliance is on the verge of destruction. Without Kerala Congress it has become weaker and the process of disintegration will be faster. LJD, which allied with UDF until last Lok Sabha election, is now with LDF. In view of these political changes, Congress leadership has decided to join hands with Jamaat-e-Islami and SDPI, he added.
Meanwhile, LDF is becoming more and more popular gaining public support. This will be reflected in the upcoming local body elections, Kodiyeri further noted.
