Kerala clocks 4,723 new COVID cases, death toll crosses 40,000
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 4,723 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, informed the health department in a press release.
Along with 19 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 158 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 40,132 in the state.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram-755, Kozhikode-718, Ernakulam-592, Thrissur-492, Kollam-355, Kannur-337, Kottayam- 271, Malappuram-211, Wayanad-206, Idukki-199, Palakkad-189, Pathanamthitta-169, Alappuzha-150 and Kasaragod-79. Test positivity rate was recorded at 7.93 percent.
A total of 59,524 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 21 wards of 19 local self-government bodies.
1,53,221 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,48,515 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 4,706 people are in hospitals. 282 people were taken to hospitals on Tuesday.
Among the 43,663 active Covid cases reported, only 7.7 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
12 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 4,393 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 292 patients remains unidentified. 26 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 5,370 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 696, Kollam-358, Pathanamthitta-472, Alappuzha-243, Kottayam-385, Idukki-242, Ernakulam-813, Thrissur-656, Palakkad-264, Malappuram-191, Kozhikode-427, Wayanad-201, Kannur-361 and Kasaragod-61.
50,57,368 people were recovered from the disease so far.
