Malappuram: In a humanitarian drive, Vellattuparambu Masjid Noor Mahallu Committee has established a supermarket named ‘Kalavara’ to feed the poor here. The supermarket will supply products free of cost to all.

The supermarket has been opened at Vellattuparambu village which shares border with Makkaraparambu, Kachinikkadu, Perintharitti, Kalavu and Vadakkangara Mahallu committees.

The supermarket was established following the prophet’s saying which directs to feed the starving people.

Food items for a five-member family will only be given per day from this supermarket. Anyone in the village can walk into the supermarket and take the products they need.

‘Kalavara’ will be operational from 6 am to 8 pm.

All houses in the Mahallu committee limit are beneficiaries of the project.130 Muslim families and 30 non-Muslim families are residing in the Mahallu committee limit.

Small packets of 21 food products will be supplied from ‘Kalavara’ per day.

The Mahallu committee has made arrangements for making donations to the supermarket.

Even financially sound people are welcome for free purchase in the supermarket. They can make donations proportionate to the purchase.

“Kalavara supermarket has no security or sales staff. This shop aims to inspire the young generation by upholding mutual understanding, cooperation and friendship with complete freedom,” said Mahallu secretary Perincherry Muhammadali, president Kalliyanthodi Avaran and treasurer Thayyil Muhammadali.
