Thiruvananthapuram: A complaint has been filed alleging that a BTech student lost his eyesight after being assaulted at the Muslim Association College of Engineering in Venjaramoodu. Al Ameen (21), a second-year Computer Science BTech student, sustained severe injuries to his eye.
The incident occurred on the night of May 24 during a college event named 'Impulse', which was organised to honour alumni and featured various performances by students. During the programme, an external group entered the campus through the mosque gate, leading to a brawl with the students. It was during this clash that Al Ameen was assaulted.
Al Ameen stated that he was struck in the eye with some kind of weapon. He sought medical treatment at the Eye Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where he underwent surgery on his left eye.
Reports indicate that the student has lost vision in that eye.
