Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across Kerala from September 15 to 21, 2026, with isolated heavy rainfall likely on September 15, 16, 19, 20 and 21. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are expected on September 15 and 16, while thunderstorm activity will continue across isolated locations on September 17, 18, and 19.
Yellow alert

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours) in the following districts.

  • 15/09/2026: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad
  • 16/09/2026: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam
  • 19/09/2026: Pathanamthitta, Idukki

Coastal advisory (Kallakkadal warning)

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a coastal alert due to the ‘Kallakkadal’ (swell surge) phenomenon. High-period ocean waves between 0.7 and 1.1 metres are expected along the coasts of Thiruvananthapuram (Kapil to Pozhiyoor), Kollam (Alappad to Edava), Kozhikode (Chombala to Ramanattukara), and Kannur (Valapattanam to New Mahe) until 11.30 pm on 16/09/2026. Fishermen and coastal residents have been strongly advised to exercise extreme caution.
