Kochi: The Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) is set to open premium outlets at two major Kochi metro stations: Vadakkekotta and Vyttila. The move is part of an initiative to expand Bevco’s services and provide easier access to its products for customers.
Bevco officials have confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding the opening of these outlets. The project is still in its early stages, with necessary permissions, including clearance from the Excise Department, yet to be secured. Authorities will also need to ensure that the outlets comply with regulations, such as the restriction on setting up near educational institutions, places of worship, and other sensitive locations.
Trial phase and future expansion
The premium outlets will initially be set up as a pilot project. If successful, the initiative could be expanded to other metro stations in Kochi. The choice of Vadakkekotta and Vyttila stations is strategic, considering the high foot traffic and ease of access for customers.
In a bid to boost non-ticket revenue, the Kochi Metro is renting out available commercial space to businesses.
