Kochi: In a surprising move ahead of the assembly elections in the state, Bigg Boss contestant and filmmaker Akhil Marar is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituent party Twenty20.

The party leader, Sabu Jacob, has called a press conference at 3 PM, where the announcement is expected to be made.

There are indications that Akhil Marar will contest the NDA ticket from the Kottarakkara assembly seat, currently held by CPM MLA and Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal. Reports suggest that this decision follows a survey conducted by the BJP, which brought Akhil Marar into the spotlight.

As he reportedly showed no interest in joining the BJP directly, the party plans to field him through Twenty20.

Last month, Twenty20 aligned itself with NDA ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in the state.

The development was officially welcomed by BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar during a joint press conference with Twenty20’s state president, Sabu M. Jacob.
