Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has officially cancelled the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 5000 crore signed with US-based firm EMCC over deep sea fishing. Apart from the MoU, the order which allotted land in Cherthala for the project also was cancelled.
Though the government nullified the MoU on March 26, an official order regarding this was issued on Wednesday after opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala raised an allegation in this regard.
Chennithala had alleged on Wednesday that the government didn’t cancel the MoU with EMCC on February 28, 2020, during ASCEND and the contract signed by KSIDC.
He also alleged that the government didn’t cancel the original MoU with EMCC with an intention to execute the deep sea fishing project after retaining power in the assembly elections.
Following this, the state government issued an order cancelling the MoU with EMCC in response to Chennithala’s allegations.
