Kattapana: Eight years after receiving a used wardrobe from a neighbour, a man from Kattappana has set a remarkable example of honesty by returning gold and cash he recently found hidden inside it.
Babu, a resident of Kattappana (Idukki), was given the steel wardrobe free by his neighbour, Jijoy, a schoolteacher. The wardrobe belonged to Jijoy’s mother, who died in an accident 11 years ago.
Over time, the wardrobe became worn and its drawers difficult to open. Last Thursday, while attempting to repair it, Babu removed one of the drawers and found a purse concealed inside. The purse contained approximately 7 sovereigns of gold, including a chain, necklace, bangles and earrings along with ₹7,500 in cash.
Without hesitation, Babu informed Jijoy and returned the valuables. The handover took place in the presence of ward councillor Beena Sibi.
Babu, who currently lives in rented accommodation after selling his property to settle financial debts, has been widely praised for his integrity.
