Palakkad: Karkidaka Vavu, where devotees perform balitarpan to pay obeisance to their ancestors, is observed on Monday. Usually, devotees perform the ritual on the banks of rivers including the Kalpathipuzha and Bharathapuzha under the guidance of priests. However, this year, the Covid pandemic has taken over the age-old practice and no balitarpan will be performed at public spaces.
Authorities of Ivor Madom, Ivar Madom Korapath and Brahmin Sabha have informed the cancellation of the ritual held at Pambadi.
Also, no balitarpan ritual will be performed at Yakkara Vishweswara temple, Kalpathi snan ghat and Karimpuzha temple ghat.
Most of the devotees have prepared for performing the balitarpan at homes.
