Kannur: More details over the death of father-son duo, hailing from Assam, in a bomb blast have come out. It is hinted that they tried opening the exposive thinking that it was some sort of treasure and that it led to the explosion. They are also said to have sent away three friends who were inside the house at the time before attempting to open the explosive on the top floor of the house.

Fazal Haq (50) and his son Shaheedul (22), died in the blast that happened at their home in Mattannur near here. They made a living out of collecting scrap, segregating and selling it, police said. They had been living with their friends at the rented house for months.

According to onlookers, both were badly injured in the explosion that left their body parts scattered. Though they were rushed to hospital, their lives could not be saved.

The police have recovered remnants of the explosives from the spot of the accident. Both dog squad and bomb squad inspected the place and ensured that there are no other explosives there.
