Thiruvananthapuram: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will question former bank president and CPI leader N. Bhasurangan again in connection with the Kandala bank scam case. He has been given instructions to appear before the ED on Friday. This is the third time that Bhasurangan has been summoned by the ED.

ED recently questioned him and his son Akhiljith for hours at its office in Kochi. Bhasurangan contended that he would prove there was no fraud and that there were only some irregularities. He also told the media personnel that ED summoned him to collect statements and not for questioning.

A few days back, ED officials conducted a raid at the bank and the houses of bank officials, including the residence of Bhasurangan, who was the former president of Kandala Bank. As per reports, ED received crucial information regarding massive irregularities linked with the bank. Based on the complaints, CPI expelled Bhasurangan from the party’s primary membership.

Earlier this month, dramatic events unfolded at the Maranalloor house on Wednesday night as Bhasurangan underwent over 20 hours of questioning. He had been taken to various locations throughout the day for the interrogation. The current residence of Bhasurangan in Poojapura, Kandala Service Cooperative Bank, the former secretaries' homes, and the residences of collection agents all underwent scrutiny by the ED. By 9 pm, he was at the Maranalloor house, where, during questioning, Bhasurangan experienced uneasiness, and was shifted to a nearby hospital.

The ED raids were following complaints alleging extensive irregularities committed by the ex-president of Kandala Bank, along with other office bearers.
Acting on this complaint, the ED has requested a report from the registrar of the cooperative societies. The registrar provided the report to the ED, and the ongoing inspection is a follow-up to the complaint.
