Thiruvananthapuram: In two deeply moving acts of organ donation, Kerala witnessed back-to-back gestures of humanity — first from 10-month-old Aalin Sherin Abraham and then from Jijin, who was declared brain-dead following a tragic road accident at Kallambalam. In both cases, grieving families chose to donate organs, turning personal loss into a chance at life for others.

“We know very well how precious a life is. If Jijin’s organs can become another person’s life, there is no greater noble deed than that,” said Priya, Jijin’s mother-in-law.

Thirteen years ago, Priya donated part of her liver to her husband, Rajendran. Knowing organ donation gives hope to many other lives, Anjali, the wife of Jijin, consented to the procedure. Both families of the deceased agreed to the donation. Jijin’s six organs gave life to six other individuals.

The heart, liver, both kidneys, and corneas were donated. The heart was donated to a patient admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. One kidney was donated to a patient at Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. The other kidney and the liver were donated to a patient at a private hospital in the city. Both corneas were donated to patients at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Thiruvananthapuram.

Jijin worked as an LD clerk at Chadayamangalam Block Panchayat office. Veena George, the state Health Minister expressed her condolences to the grieving family and thanked the family members for their generosity in consenting to organ donation.

Soon after sustaining serious injuries in the accident, Jijin was admitted first to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and then to Medical College. On February 24, 2026, doctors confirmed he is brain-death.

Jijin, the son of late Chandran and Ushadevi, is survived by his wife Anjali and their daughter Ashwamalika. He was also the son-in-law of Kilimanoor Rajendran, a former panchayat president.

Leaders including MP AA Raheem, MLA. Kadakampally Surendran, and MLA OS Ambika visited the hospital to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
