Malappuram: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader Panakkad Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal has said the party will support the Congress’s choice for chief minister if the UDF comes to power in Kerala, reaffirming the alliance’s established practice ahead of vote counting on May 4.
Panakkad Thangal clarified that IUML does not have a separate preference for the chief ministerial candidate and will fully back the decision taken by the Congress leadership. He said this approach has long been the norm within the UDF alliance.

He added that a unified decision on leadership would be taken after the election results are declared.
Thangal expressed confidence that the UDF is expecting a favourable outcome, stating that there is a public demand for change in governance focused on development and welfare.
He also referred to exit poll trends suggesting a possible UDF advantage, while reiterating that the final verdict will come from voters.
According to Thangal, discussions on IUML’s representation in the cabinet will take place only after the results are announced on May 4. He also responded to political criticism by stating that the election outcome will answer such claims.
