TDP has won several municipalities, including Pulivendula, Kovvur and Uyyuru, as Andhra Pradesh counts votes across 92 urban local bodies. YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged electoral irregularities, while cyclone-related disruptions delayed counting in some areas.

Amaravati: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has secured victories in several municipalities, including Pulivendula, Kovvur and Uyyuru, as counting for Andhra Pradesh's 2026 civic elections continued across the state. Meanwhile, YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused the ruling alliance, police and State Election Commission of electoral irregularities.
The counting of votes for the Andhra Pradesh municipal elections began on Tuesday, November 3, across the state, with results being declared for urban local bodies. The elections cover 92 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), comprising 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and Nagar Panchayats.
The results are being closely watched as a test of political support for Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance and the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), led by former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
TDP secures key municipal victories
The TDP registered victories in several municipalities during the counting process.
TDP candidate Tugutla Geetha Kumari was elected chairperson of Pulivendula Municipality, reportedly winning by a margin of 13,875 votes. The victory is politically significant as Pulivendula is considered a stronghold of YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In Kovvur, TDP candidate Vijayalakshmi Kanthamani was elected chairperson with a reported margin of 9,668 votes. Chennam Venkateswara Rao of the TDP also secured victory as chairman of Uyyuru Municipality.
The party additionally won four of the five municipalities in Kadapa district: Badvel, Rajampet, Rayachoti and Mydukur. The BJP reportedly won Yerraguntla, taking the NDA alliance's tally in the district to five municipalities.
The TDP also secured victory in Kuppam and recorded unopposed wins in Punganur and Rayachoti, according to the updates provided.
YSRCP alleges electoral irregularities
YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the ruling TDP-led government, police and State Election Commission of manipulating the municipal elections.
In a post on X, he alleged irregularities during nominations, candidate withdrawals, polling and counting. He claimed that Opposition candidates were denied a fair opportunity to contest.
"You selected the candidates; the people never elected them! These are no longer elections but selections!" Jagan said, while calling for electoral reforms.
The allegations come as the ruling alliance reports victories across several municipal bodies. The claims have not been independently established in the information provided.
Counting arrangements and security
The State Election Commission established 138 counting centres, with 556 halls and 6,831 tables to facilitate the counting process. A total of 47,817 personnel were deployed across the centres.
Of these, 28,182 personnel were assigned to municipal corporation counting, while 19,635 were deployed for municipalities and Nagar Panchayats.
Authorities also installed 1,372 CCTV cameras at strong rooms and counting centres to monitor the process. Security was strengthened at several locations, including the Andhra University counting centre in Visakhapatnam.
Postal ballot counting was completed before the main rounds began. Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla said the first round was nearing completion and that the process was expected to remain peaceful.
Cyclone-related delays in counting
Adverse weather conditions affected the election schedule in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Counting in Ongole and Nellore was delayed as the districts dealt with the impact of the cyclone. Authorities also announced delays in Prakasam and Bapatla districts because disrupted transport and movement made it difficult for counting personnel and materials to reach the centres.
The counting in Chirala was postponed to November 6 due to adverse weather conditions.
Despite the delays, counting continued in several other parts of the state, with results and trends emerging throughout Tuesday.
Other key election updates
- Visakhapatnam: TDP candidate Mukka Sravani was reported to be leading against the YSRCP candidate by 16,160 votes.
- Vijayawada: TDP candidates had won three wards and the BJP one, while alliance candidates were leading in five other seats, according to the updates.
- Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation: The TDP-led alliance maintained leads in several wards.
- Kakinada: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party won two wards in the Municipal Corporation.
- Kalyandurg: The YSRCP secured two seats in the municipality.

What the municipal results mean for Andhra Pradesh politics
The municipal election results offer an indication of the political standing of the TDP-led alliance and the YSRCP at the local level. The contest is particularly significant because it comes after the TDP's victory in the 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
The TDP's reported victories in Pulivendula and several municipalities in Kadapa district carry added political importance because the region has traditionally been associated with Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP. However, municipal results alone cannot establish a statewide political shift.
The outcome also matters for local governance. Municipal bodies are responsible for civic services, including sanitation, roads, water supply, drainage and urban infrastructure. Control over these institutions can influence how political parties implement local development priorities and build support among urban voters.
Meanwhile, the YSRCP's allegations of irregularities have brought attention to the role of the State Election Commission, election administration and the need for transparent counting procedures. These claims require examination through official complaints, evidence and responses from the authorities.
The final outcome across all 92 urban local bodies will provide a more complete picture of the alliance's performance and the Opposition's position in Andhra Pradesh's municipal politics.
