Malappuram: A resolution was passed against Minister P K Basheer at the Indian Union Muslim League's (IUML) monsoon camp held in Tenhipalam. The resolution was introduced following widespread complaints that large sums were being collected as bribes for management quota student admissions at Kondotty EMEA College, where the Minister serves as general secretary. The resolution demands that the PWD Minister step down from the position of College general secretary. The camp was attended by elected representatives in the presence of observers appointed by the district committee.

The resolution alleged that exorbitant bribes were being demanded for management quota seats in undergraduate, postgraduate and BEd courses at Kondotty EMEA College. It stated that this practice violates the declared policies of the party.

The primary objective of EMEA College was to elevate educationally backward students within the Muslim community. However, the criticism noted that the college, operating under IUML management, has completely ignored these founding principles and transformed into a commercial hub.

The resolution further highlighted that the institution was built on land acquired free of cost, with buildings and equipment funded through contributions from party MPs and MLAs.

Although organisations, including the MSF, had previously prepared to protest publicly against the issue, party leadership intervened to halt the demonstrations. The resolution pointed out that the Minister is now preparing retaliatory action against local MSF leaders who led those protests, which it stated cannot be accepted.
