There are also reports that some other states are considering appointing him as their special representative in Delhi.

Kochi: Fresh speculation over K V Thomas's political future has resurfaced after the former Kerala government's special representative in Delhi vacated his office at Kerala House following the change of government in the state.
Thomas, who was appointed during the second Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government, handed over his room after the UDF government assumed office in Kerala.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (May 20), Thomas said there was no question of resigning from the position because his tenure had already come to an end.
"My tenure automatically ended on the night of May 4 after the Chief Minister stepped down after the election verdict," he said, adding that staff attached to his office had also left their positions the same day.
Speculation intensified after reports emerged about an alleged meeting with BJP national organisational general secretary B L Santhosh.
Thomas did not directly deny the reports when questioned by journalists. Asked specifically whether such a meeting had taken place, he said he regularly meets many people.
When reporters asked whether any political move was underway, Thomas said:
"You can create many stories. I have been here for 50 years. These are people I have been meeting directly for 10 or 20 years. I meet many people. I have known and met people including B L Santhosh for a long time. It is not something that has started today."
Thomas is also scheduled to meet CPM general secretary M A Baby at Kerala House in Delhi.
Reports have also suggested that he may meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the coming days. There are also reports that some other states are considering appointing him as their special representative in Delhi.
Earlier developments had also triggered BJP speculation
Thomas was earlier a Congress leader and had served both in the Kerala cabinet and in the Union cabinet during the UPA period.
His ties with Congress weakened after he was denied a Lok Sabha ticket in 2019. In 2022, he was expelled from the party after attending an LDF convention and backing the Left candidate in the Thrikkakara by-election. He was later appointed Kerala's special representative in Delhi.
Last month, Thomas drew attention after backing the Union government's stand during the debate around the women's reservation legislation (Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026), even as Congress, the Left and several INDIA bloc parties opposed aspects linked to delimitation.
At the time, Thomas wrote on Facebook that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to leaders of all political parties to avoid objections and that the move reflected the Prime Minister's sincerity on the issue.
The proposed measures were later defeated in the Lok Sabha and withdrawn by the Union government.
However,Thomas' stand at the time had prompted discussion over whether he could move away from the CPM-led LDF and move closer to the BJP. The latest developments have brought those discussions back into focus.
