Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for significant rainfall over the next five days due to a low pressure area stretching from the Kerala coast to Maharashtra, coupled with a cyclone off North Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings predicting widespread rain across the state.

From July 1, there is a risk of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas, particularly in Kannur and Kasaragod districts, marked under an orange alert. From July 1 to 3, heavy rains are expected across various districts, prompting yellow alerts. These include Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad on July 1, and Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod on July 2. On July 3, yellow alerts are in effect for Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, with thunderstorms anticipated.

Additionally, the National Oceanographic Research Center has warned of high waves and a 'black sea phenomenon' along the Kerala and Tamil Nadu coasts until 11.30 pm on July 2. Residents and fishermen in these coastal areas are advised to exercise caution during this period.
