Suresh Gopi credits Tamil Nadu for Jallikattu’s continuity, raises Kerala’s problem

Chennai: Union Minister Suresh Gopi remarked that Jallikattu, the traditional bull-taming event, would likely have disappeared if it were held in Kerala instead of Tamil Nadu. He suggested that human rights activists might have strongly opposed it, leading to its abolition.

Suresh Gopi made these comments while visiting firecracker factories in Sivakasi. He praised the people of Tamil Nadu for their commitment to preserving Jallikattu, attributing its continued success not only to their attitude but also to their meticulous planning.

Recently, the Minister also announced that Thrissur Pooram would be celebrated in its traditional form, restoring the festival's historic grandeur. This statement was made during a meeting led by the Union Minister to address concerns regarding the festival.

Suresh Gopi emphasised that Thrissur Pooram is a cherished tradition for the people and Pooram enthusiasts. He noted that while past celebrations were enjoyed for their smooth execution, recent events had faced some disruptions. The Minister stressed that the festival should remain a people's celebration, adhering to standards set by the High Court, which serves as the law.
