Munnar: In connection with the state government’s move to cancel the controversial title deeds of Munnar known by the name ‘Raveendran Pattayams’, the revenue department has formed a special team. These title deeds, deemed to be illegal, was issued by Devikulam Taluk additional tehsildar MA Raveendran in 1991, during the tenure of the EK Nayanar government.
Interestingly, the reports on the government’s move to cancel the title deeds emerged at a time when CM Pinarayi Vijayan was abroad for medical treatment. The move was initiated by the present revenue additional chief secretary Dr A Jayathilak IAS. He had directed the Idukki district collector to complete the needful procedures within 45 days.
The constitution of the special team by the Land Revenue Commissioner comes amid this. The team mainly comprises deputy tehsildars and revenue inspectors of all districts in the state except Kollam. Senior clerks from all districts are also part of it. The total number of members is 41 and it will be headed by district collector Sheeba George. The team has been constituted to scrutinize the files of ‘Raveendran Pattayams’ to initiate steps to cancel them.
Reportedly, once the officials complete the necessary procedures, more than 530 title deeds will become invalid.
