In a scathing rebuke, the Kerala High Court chastised the state government on Tuesday for its apparent failure to address encroachments in Munnar. The court questioned the sincerity of the government's efforts and hinted at the potential need for a CBI investigation.

These comments arose during a review session focused on tackling encroachments and restoring environmental equilibrium. A dedicated bench, convening bi-monthly, was established by the court for this purpose.

Despite earlier directives for the District Collector to submit encroachment-related reports, both last month's and this month's reports are still outstanding, prompting the division bench's criticism.

The court expressed dismay over the lack of progress in resolving the issue, which has lingered unresolved for 14 years. It announced plans to investigate the reasons behind the failure to clear extensive encroachments in Munnar.

Furthermore, the court summoned the Revenue Principal Secretary to appear via video conference on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. for further clarification. Failure to provide a satisfactory explanation may result in the court ordering a CBI investigation.

Previous findings uncovered the issuance of fraudulent titles in Munnar, yet the government failed to take action against the responsible revenue authorities.

Serious allegations have emerged suggesting collusion between the land mafia, government officials, and politicians.
