Leaked Discord messages tied to Nepal’s Gen-Z protests mention guns, grenades, and a Kerala-based contact, according to The Kathmandu Post.

Kathmandu: Reports suggest that a call for weapons procurement for Nepal’s Gen Z protests was allegedly made from Kerala. Chat messages leaked from the social media platform Discord revealed discussions about arranging weapons and offering help through the same network.
According to the Kathmandu Post, misleading information was also being spread online amid the Gen Z uprising in Nepal.
Discord — a social media platform popular among online gamers — was reportedly used by protesters to coordinate and discuss their movement. The US-based platform saw the creation of several special channels dedicated to organising the protests.
Two Discord servers, Yuvatha (Youth) and Youth Hub, were central to fuelling the anti-corruption protests. The platform helped participants plan protest locations, timings and strategies in detail. According to the Kathmandu Post, even the elevation of Sushila Karki as a symbolic prime ministerial figure was influenced by Gen Z groups active on the same platform.
The newspaper published excerpts from Discord chat logs showing calls for weapons collection and responses from users willing to assist. Messages indicated an intent to prolong the protests rather than call them off. These chats were allegedly posted by a user under the handle Greenishhhhhh.
On September 8 at 11.49 pm, the user posted, “Need a [expletive] gun solution.” Two minutes later, the same user claimed they could import guns from India. “I’ll import from India,” they wrote at 11:51 pm. “About 50 grenades might come.” At 11:56pm, they posted again, “I know a dealer from Kerala, India—he can bring them if I ask.”
While some participants urged restraint, the absence of clear leadership reportedly made it difficult to contain the Gen Z movement, escalating tensions further.
Simultaneously, large-scale misinformation was spreading on Discord. A user named Tony falsely claimed that a rape had occurred at Global College Hostel, which inflamed the situation. The rumour spread rapidly before being debunked by the media.
On Monday, 8 September 2025, thousands of young people poured into the streets of Kathmandu, as well as Pokhara, Butwal, Bhairahawa and Bharatpur. They gathered around the Parliament building, waving national flags, singing the national anthem, and chanting slogans against corruption and censorship.
As protesters broke through barricades, demonstrations turned violent. Despite the government’s “shoot-at-sight” order, police used water cannons, tear gas, rubber bullets and live rounds to disperse the crowds. Yet, the demonstrators surrounded the parliamentary complex and eventually set parts of the building on fire.
