Thiruvananthapuram: The Department of Social Justice has made it clear that a single teacher will be allotted for every eight students at BUDS schools. Similarly, the presence of parents will be ascertained, while giving therapy for the differently abled students. The parents will have a provision to view the proceedings at the therapy unit either through CCTV visuals or directly.

In the draft prepared by the department, the schools have been asked to include details of students, their health reports and previous history, in the registers. The private services provided in this regard will also be regulated.

A doctor’s visit is mandatory at every Buds school every month. Medical records of the students shall be preserved for at least five years. The annual reports of each of these institutions shall be submitted without fail every year, before October 31. There should be ample supply of toys for entertaining kids inside and outside the school premises. 

Classrooms, therapy rooms, occupational training rooms and recreational rooms shall be compulsorily present in all the BUDS schools. In addition to this, preference shall be given to differently abled people while considering individuals for the jobs of caregivers and sweepers at BUDS schools. It is mandatory for the teachers to register under the Indian Rehabilitation Council.     

Teachers who have been teaching at the BUDS schools for two years shall not be removed from service without valid reasons. And in the same way, salaries of therapists shall be fixed based on the government orders.

Such schools shall be spread across a minimum of 15 cents in the municipalities and corporations. Coming to panchayats, they should have at least 20 cents. The directions shall be finalised after taking the opinion of people and institutions involved in the field.
