Kerala government has declared Pamba’s Aranmula– Chengannur stretch as a line of navigation. This means the government has approved water transport in the stretch. 

“The Government have decided to declare Aranmula– Chengannoor, the stretch of Pamba river, as a line of navigation under the Travancore Public Canals and Public Ferries Act, 1096 (Act VI of 1096) for starting new boat service,” the notification published read. 

The newly notified 8km stretch will be part of the inland waterways of the state. The move is likely to boost the tourism potential of the Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts. 

The development is the product of an appeal made by Aranmula Vikasana Samiti, seeking approval to operate tourist vessels.
