The Met Gala 2025 turned the iconic steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art into a grand tribute to heritage, culture, and high fashion. Known globally as one of the biggest nights in fashion, the annual fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute saw designers, celebrities, and artists come together in bold and expressive styles.
This year’s Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrated the elegance, resilience, and innovation of Black sartorial history. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s work Slaves to Fashion, and curated by Andrew Bolton, the exhibit spotlighted centuries of Black fashion from the 18th century to the modern era.
Kerala's connection to the Met Gala
For the third year in a row, a quiet town in Kerala, India, played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in one of fashion’s loudest and most anticipated events. Neytt by Extraweave, a manufacturing facility based in Cherthala, Alappuzha, created the 63,000-square-foot eco-conscious carpet that dazzled the Met Gala 2025. The carpet was later hand-painted in the United States before it took centre stage at one of the most-watched fashion events of the year.
This marks the third consecutive year Neytt by Extraweave has been selected to ready the carpet — a remarkable achievement that connects Kerala to this global spectacle. First appearing at the Met Gala in 2022, the brand’s reputation has only grown since.
More than just a visually stunning surface, it was a statement of sustainability and craftsmanship. The carpet was made using biodegradable sisal fibres sourced from Madagascar, showcasing an eco-friendly approach to high fashion.
As part of the event's sustainability efforts, the use of such materials made Neytt by Extraweave a natural choice for a third time. The brand’s work stood out as a fusion of Indian artisanal skill and global responsibility.

Indian stars shine on the blue carpet
Indian designers and celebrities had a strong presence at this year’s event. Manish Malhotra, Shah Rukh Khan, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh made their Met Gala debuts, while regular attendees like Priyanka Chopra, Isha Ambani, and Natasha Poonawalla returned to the spotlight.
Fashion designer Sabyasachi also walked the blue carpet, having styled Shah Rukh Khan for his appearance. The night opened with a dance performance to the classic anthem "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough", with co-chairs Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo leading the guest arrivals.
