Kozhikode: A group of friends has given a stunning makeover to a roadside wall at Kodenchery here. They have created a beautiful sculpture by carving the red stones on the wall.

‘I reach home by 3.30 pm after work on most days. Usually, I spend the evenings with my friends inside the market. My friend Raveendran’s front yard was acquired as part of the Koodathai-Kodenchery road reconstruction. Once, we noticed comparatively yielding red stone there. We decided to do something on it and it finally ended up like this,’ said Sreejith, the main sculptor behind the sculpture on the wall in Kodenchery Panchayat. He is a painting worker by profession.

The walls are beautifully sculpted with portraits of elephants, trees, and birds. They have also polished the sculptures. The group of three friends includes Sreejith, Raveendran and Baburajan.

They took 20 days to complete the work. They used wiring tools for carving the figures. Interestingly, all three men have no previous experience in sculpture making.

The trio had no idea how it would turn out when they started the work. They just went on with the work and completed it as impressing all. They added that they are getting great support from their friends and other locals and it inspired them to create more such sculptures.

Many people are arriving at the location to take pictures of the wall.
