Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state capital, the frequent bomb threats being raised have been troubling the Kerala police. Since the bomb threats have been causing continuous headaches for the police department, a special investigation team has been assigned. Central and state intelligence agencies are reportedly dissatisfied with the failure to trace the origin of the threatening emails.
For more than the past three weeks, fake messages raising bomb threats have been received at various places across the state. Recently, a message suggesting a bomb threat at the Thiruvananthapuram airport prompted police to respond seriously. With only a few days left for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to arrive in Kerala on May 2 for the dedication of the Vizhinjam Port to the nation, the situation is being handled with added caution.
In just the past two weeks, there have been 12 fake bomb threat messages reported in Thiruvananthapuram alone. The police are under pressure as they are yet to identify the sources behind these messages.
As part of the Prime Minister’s visit preparations, central and state intelligence agencies have ramped up surveillance across Kerala. It is in the midst of this that the bomb threats are occurring. The intelligence wing reportedly views the cyber police’s inability to trace the source of the email messages as a lapse. A decision has been made to form a special team by including officers from the police’s technical cyber division.
