Kottayam: The flag hoisting ceremony for the 'ashtami' celebrations at the Vaikom Mahadeva temple was held on Sunday.
Thantri Bhadrakalan Mattappalli Narayanan Namboothiri hoisted the flag at 8:30 am in the presence of Kizhakkiniyedam Mekkatt Mahadevan Namboothiri and Mekkatt Cheriya Narayanan Namboothiri.
Devotees chanted the 'panchakshari mantra' during the ceremony.
Ashtami is on November 17.
