Five former security personnel of ex-CM Pinarayi Vijayan have been suspended after an SIT probe found their Alappuzha 'rescue act' assault unlawful.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a major development, five police personnel who previously served as part of the security detail for former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan have been suspended. The suspended officers have been identified as Anil, Sandeep, Vipin, Shyju and Arun.
The disciplinary action follows a fresh investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which found that the security team's brutal physical assault on Youth Congress and KSU activists in Alappuzha was entirely "unlawful" and exceeded their official mandates. The incident, controversially defended by the previous administration as a "rescue act”, occurred during the 2023 Nava Kerala Sadas when protesters, including current Alappuzha MLA A D Thomas, were beaten with lathis while already in police custody.
The SIT has reportedly submitted its findings to the State Police Chief, recommending strict departmental action alongside criminal charges, including attempt to murder, against the five accused personnel.
