New Delhi: Kerala government argued before the Supreme Court that only a meagre fine has been imposed on businessman Mohammed Nisham, who was found guilty of the murder of a security guard Chandrabose.

Kerala pointed out that the families of fishermen who lost lives in "accidental firing" received Rs 4 crore while the court ordered only Rs 50 lakh compensation on a business tycoon, who has assets worth Rs 5,000 crore.

The Supreme Court has been considering the plea seeking capital punishment for Mohammed Nisham who killed Chandrabose by hitting a car.

The bench comprising justices AS Bopanna and Dipankar Dutta sent notice to Mohammed Nisham based on the petition filed by Kerala. Senior lawyer Jayanth Muthuraj and standing counsel Nishe Rajan Shonker appeared for state government in the Supreme Court.
