Kochi: In a decisive move, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has firmly rejected the producers’ demand to cut actors' remuneration. The organisation noted that it cannot accept the proposed strike and maintained that it will not permit interference in actors’ work or film production.

The decision was made during a meeting held at its office in Kochi on Monday. Actors Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Manju Pillai, Basil Joseph, Ansiba, Tovino Thomas, Saikumar and Vijayaraghavan were among those who attended the meeting .

The meeting was convened urgently amid ongoing discussions on the remuneration issue. All actors in Kochi were asked to attend the meeting as part of the deliberations.

Producers' stance on payment terms

The producers' association had proposed certain conditions regarding part-by-part payments to actors. However, it remains unclear whether AMMA will engage in further discussions or soften its stance on this particular matter.

Meanwhile, the producers’ association will hold an executive meeting this afternoon. It is likely that the association may come up with measures to counter AMMA’s decision. Discussions may include whether to take a more stringent approach to the issue.

Reports suggest that producer Antony Perumbavoor will not attend the meeting, while producer Suresh Kumar is expected to be present. Speaking to the media earlier, producer Listin Stephen expressed confidence that the issue could be resolved through discussions. However, Antony Perumbavoor’s absence could further deepen the crisis within the producers’ association.
