Kakkanad: Parvathy Gopakumar, who assumed charge as Ernakulam Assistant Collector on May 19, 2025, had expressed a wish to Mathrubhumi that day—to work at the Alappuzha Collectorate where her father, KS Gopakumar, was serving as Deputy Tehsildar. That wish came true on Thursday at the Ernakulam Collectorate. Parvathy did not go to Alappuzha; instead, her father was posted to Ernakulam.

Gopakumar, who had come earlier to witness his daughter assume office, arrived on Thursday to take charge as Tehsildar at the Kochi Metro Land Acquisition Office, accompanied by his daughter, the Assistant Collector.

On Thursday morning, Gopakumar reached the Ernakulam Collectorate in the Assistant Collector’s official vehicle. Many at the Collectorate were unaware that Parvathy’s father was arriving to assume charge; many thought someone was simply walking alongside the Collector. It was only later that the curious news spread—that the father had come with his daughter to take charge as the new Tehsildar of the Metro Land Acquisition (No. 1) section.

KS Gopakumar, who had been serving as Deputy Tehsildar at the Alappuzha Collectorate, was promoted as Tehsildar and posted to Ernakulam.

The joy of being able to work within arm’s reach of her father was evident on the Assistant Collector’s face. After meeting Collector G Priyanka in person, Gopakumar handed over the documents related to assuming charge to Additional District Magistrate Vinod Raj.

The Assistant Collector accompanied him to the Metro Land Acquisition Office, seated the new Tehsildar at his desk, and then left. Gopakumar will be staying with his daughter at a flat near the Collectorate.

Parvathy had lost her right arm in an accident while she was a school student. Through sheer determination, she pursued her studies and rose to her current position. She had assumed charge at the Collectorate last year, accompanied by her father, her mother Sreekala S Nair—a teacher at Kakazham Government HSS—and other family members.
