Kottayam: The NSS is observing August 2 as Faith Preservation Day.

The Nair community organised protest in response to Speaker A.N. Shamseer's controversial remark that Hindu mythologies were being portrayed as scientific truth by the Union government. NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair visited Vazhapally Temple in Kottayam and took part in rituals.

Meanwhile, NSS has also announced a march from Palayam Ganapathy Temple to Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple. Responding to the media, Sukumaran Nair said anti-hindu views are behind Shamseer's remark. He warned that if Hindus are mocked, there will be harsh responses.

Sukumaran Nair also reiterated that Shamseer is not worthy enough to hold the office of Kerala Speaker. However, he dismissed reports that he had demanded the resignation of Shamseer.

"Shamseer should apologise for his remark. Faith is more important than Science. We are not against BJP. I appreciate the stand taken by BJP on the matter. We are merely observing prayers and are not waging any attacks," he said.
