Oachira (Kollam): Forgetting the tragedies in his own life, an expat and his wife are offering lunch for fair price to people. Lunch is offered at Rs 20 in the hotel run by expat Jacob Thomas, who became partially blind after an accident, and his wife Jisha, who is a cancer patient.
The hotel Mannah is located near Kuttimukku in Thazhava. The couple is willing to provide free food for poor people. The lunch include items like rice, Sambar, Pulissery, Aviyal, Thoran, pickle and ginger curry. In order to follow COVID lockdown norms, they serve lunch as parcel. About 50-60 lunch packs are sold every day. The couple said that many poor people approach them for food.
Earlier, Jacob was a workshop employee in Saudi Arabia. Once an iron object pierced into his right eye during work. Though an eye transplant surgery was performed, he lost sight of right eye. His wife Jisha has been under cancer treatment for nine years in RCC. Their children George and Rachel are students at Thazhava Madathil Higher Secondary School.
The family started the hotel taking a loan of Rs 10 lakh from Agriculture Development Bank, after finding no way to survive. They have four labourers at the hotel for help.
