Thiruvananthapuram: The government has failed to deliver on its promise to shift 6.5 lakh expired Aravana tins stockpiled in Sabarimala to a preferred location for disposal. The government officials had vowed to find a solution to the persisting problems at the earliest in a discussion held three weeks ago. But no effective measure have been taken in this regard so far. With the onset of the Sabarimala season, the task has become all the more difficult now. Now the authorities will be able to shift the Aravana tins from Sannidhanam to Pamba only once the season ends (i.e., after January 19).

It should be noted that in a meeting held as per the instructions of the chief secretary, several suggestions were put forth regarding shifting of expired Aravana. However no one had a concrete idea on how to dispose of the edible substance. The Devaswom was expected to organise a meeting with the ministers. But the government remained quiet on the issue so far.

A few private companies had come forward expressing interest in taking up the task. However, no final decision has been taken regarding handing over the contract to them. Now with the ministers busy with the Nava Kerala Sadas programme, no one except the Devaswom officials seems to be really keen on sorting out the problem.

The Supreme Court had earlier asked the state government to intervene in the matter, in order to help the Devaswom transfer the tins from Sannidhanam.
