Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to allocate Rs 6 lakh as financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the Wayanad landslide. This was announced by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during a press conference following the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Those who have suffered major disabilities will receive Rs 75,000, while those with minor disabilities will be given Rs 50,000.

For those required to move into rented houses, the government will provide up to Rs 6,000 per month per family from the relief fund. The Chief Minister also stated that this assistance will be extended to families moving to the houses of relatives.

He added that the government's objective is to provide free accommodation, and hence, there will be no need to pay rent for houses owned by the government, public entities, or private individuals who offer their houses free of charge.
