
Ernakulam: C Jayasree, a native of Elavoor in Ernakulam has been involved in many socially relevant causes after quitting her teaching job. As being interested in agriculture she has played a crucial role in the protests which demanded the protection of the Erayamkudi paddy field. But now she has been involved in a new mission—Malayalam newspaper reading for the visually challenged.
Her newspaper reading uploaded on a telegram channel has been helping visually challenged Malayalam knowing listeners across the globe for the last three months.
At present, there are around 800 listeners for her news reading. The initiative is part of the ‘Vinjanadeepam’ Telegram channel which is involved in providing an audio version of news and books for the visually challenged.
Jayasree teacher is mainly involved in reading front-page news and weekly columns published in Mathrubhumi newspaper. Apart from that she completed reading 35 books, travelogues and translation works for the visually challenged.
Meanwhile, many other readers are also actively engaged in the Telegram channel. In total, around 40 people are reading various materials in Malayalam. After recording the reading materials, the audio clips will be shared in the newsroom group of the Telegram. The audio clips of news stories will be shared within 9 AM. The telegram community was formed two years ago.
