Thrippunithura: In a bizarre but tragic incident, two men in a car sank in a weed-filled pond while trying to park the vehicle by mistaking it as a ground.

Venugopal from Kadavanthra and Binoy from Thiruvankulam met with the accident near Thrippunithura Municipality’s AG Raghava Menon Mandiram at 7 pm on Tuesday.

It could have been a grieve tragedy; however, the timely intervention of onlookers saved them. They rushed to the spot and aided them to come out of the vehicle.

When the car sank, only the back side of the car was visible. The individuals inside the car tried to open the door. But failed. Fortunately, they were able to open the boot of the car and came out.

According to Venugopal, the car sank when he moved the vehicle forward by thinking that it was a plot. There was no street light in the place, nor the pond had barricades. “There were grasses and bushes which made me think that it was a ground.” The pond is under the ambit of the municipality.
