Udma, Kerala: An engaged couple was found dead hours apart in separate locations, with police planning to examine their mobile phones as part of the investigation.

P. Anushree, 25, of Poochakkad in Kasaragod, and V. Amal, 26, of Ambalathatta in Iritty, were found dead at their respective places of stay. Both were State Bank of India employees, Anushree was working in Karnataka, while Amal was employed in Ernakulam. They were scheduled to get married on Dec. 26.

The couple had got engaged two months ago at Anushree's home in Poochakkad.

Anushree had worked at the bank until Tuesday night. When her sister called later that night, Anushree reportedly said that she had been speaking to Amal over the phone. Police said the mobile phones of both will be examined in detail.

When Anushree did not answer repeated calls from her family on Wednesday morning, they alerted neighbours. The neighbours went to her residence and found her dead. Hunsur police conducted the inquest, and after the post-mortem, her body was brought to her home in Poochakkad on Wednesday evening and cremated.

Amal, who worked at the SBI MG Road branch in Ernakulam, was staying with friends in Palarivattom. After learning about Anushree's death, he took a room at a lodge near Ernakulam North railway station at around 8:45 am on Wednesday and shared his location with his friends.

When he did not answer their calls, his friends went to the lodge. They forced open the door and found Amal dead. Ernakulam North police conducted the inquest and shifted the body to the General Hospital mortuary.

Anushree is survived by her father, K. Chandran, who runs Malabar Gas Distribution Agency in Nileshwaram, mother Reena and sister Sreelakshmi. Amal is survived by his father Sudhakaran, mother A. Anitha and sister Nakshatra.
