Thrissur: An election squad intercepted a vehicle at Cheruthuruthi, located along the boundary of the Chelakkara constituency, and seized Rs 19.5 lakh in cash. The money was found being transported in the car, and the election authorities are currently investigating its source.
The cash was found during a routine inspection by the election squad, near the Kalmandalam in Cheruthuruthi. The individuals in the vehicle were from the Kulappully area. They claimed the money was being transported to Ernakulam for house construction. However, they were unable to provide documents to support the source of the cash.
As a result, the election squad detained the individuals, a father and son duo, who were travelling in the vehicle. They are being questioned in detail about the money.
While the duo insists they have the necessary documents to prove the source of the funds, they have yet to present any paperwork. If they are able to provide valid documentation, no further action will be taken. However, if any violations are discovered during the investigation, the election squad will proceed with necessary legal actions.
