Alappuzha/ Kottayam: All educational institutions will remain closed in Kerala's Kottayam district on June 28. Additionally, district administration has declared holiday for schools and colleges in Alappuzha's four taluks - Kuttanad, Chengannur, Cherthala and Ambalappuzha - on Friday.

Alappuzha District Collector Alex Varghese has declared that all educational institutions including professional colleges, tuition centers and Anganwadis in four taluks of Alappuzha district will be closed on Friday due to waterlogging in schools and heavy rains continuing. He added that there will be no changes in the pre-scheduled exams.

Meanwhile, the Collector V Vigneshwari declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Kottayam district because of continuing rains and floods. 

Indian Meteorological Department has predicted isolated rain and strong winds in the Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts. 

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has alerted locals to maintain special caution along the coasts of Kannur and Kasaragod districts as high waves and rough seas are likely to occur. The notification also mentioned that the Kallakkadal phenomenon and high waves are likely to occur on Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm on Saturday. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas are advised to exercise special caution.
