Supporters gathered at the residence of State Leader of the Opposition and Congress candidate V.D. Satheesan on Monday morning, closely tracking the counting of votes as the 2026 Kerala Assembly election results process got under way. Early trends from Paravur in Ernakulam district showed Satheesan leading by 500 votes as of 9:30 am.

Counting of votes for the state election is set to continue through the day, with final results expected later.

Paravur emerges as a key political battleground

Paravur has drawn sustained attention during the campaign, anchored by Satheesan’s candidature. A five-time MLA from the constituency since 2001, he is seeking another term on a United Democratic Front (UDF) ticket.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has fielded E.T. Taison, also known as Tyson Master, a sitting MLA from Kaipamangalam. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate, Valsala Prasannakumar, a former municipal chairperson who recently joined the BJP, adds a third dimension to the contest.

Campaign trail reflects contrasting pitches

The campaign period in Paravur saw active grassroots outreach by all three candidates. Satheesan’s campaign leaned on his long-standing connection with voters, engaging with traders and residents in local settings.

Taison’s campaign focused on development and welfare measures, with the LDF aiming to extend its governance narrative. His outreach included visits across panchayats, highlighting local-level engagement.

Prasannakumar’s campaign sought to tap into voter sentiment for change, positioning the NDA as an alternative to both the UDF and LDF. Her recent shift from the Congress added a layer of political interest.

Past results and survey signals

In the 2021 Assembly elections, Satheesan retained Paravur with an increased margin of 21,301 votes, even as the LDF secured a statewide victory.

Ahead of the 2026 polls, a Mathrubhumi pre-poll survey indicated a lead for the UDF in Paravur. The survey placed Satheesan at 49.78 per cent vote share, followed by Taison at 38.72 per cent and Prasannakumar at 11.50 per cent.
