Pathanamthitta: Yet another case of alleged police atrocity has come to light in Kerala. A former SFI office-bearer, Jayakrishnan Thannithodu, who served as the SFI Pathanamthitta district president, has recounted the brutality he allegedly faced during the UDF government. He has levelled allegations against Alappuzha DYSP and former Konni CI Madhu Babu through a Facebook post.

Jayakrishnan referred to an incident that occurred on October 12, 2012. He alleged that during Madhu Babu’s tenure as Konni CI, he was physically assaulted. According to the post, chilly spray was used on his eyes and body, and the eardrum of one ear was ruptured.

The incident took place on the day of union elections at MG University colleges. Jayakrishnan alleged that he was taken into custody without reason and subjected to assault. He faced multiple cases and was imprisoned for three and a half months. Following his complaint, an inquiry was reportedly conducted against Madhu Babu, with recommendations for disciplinary action. However, no action was implemented, prompting Jayakrishnan to approach the High Court.

“Police officers involved in beatings and third-degree torture are still holding key positions in Kerala Police. Let me share an old story. During my tenure as an SFI official (under the UDF government), then Konni CI Madhu Babu subjected me to lock-up torture and third-degree assault.
 

They ruptured my eardrum, sprayed chilly in my eyes and on my body — narrating it would take over 10 pages. I survived because of the protection from my party. I sought treatment at a medical college for six months. The then government jailed me for over three months. Multiple cases were filed against me in one night, all of which were later quashed.

I have been fighting against the criminal activities of Madhu Babu in the police for the past 14 years. The then Pathanamthitta SP Harishankar, now IG, recommended strict disciplinary action against the guilty Madhu Babu, acknowledging that he had brought shame to the police force.

Yet, this report has not been implemented. Madhu Babu, previously convicted in multiple cases, should have been removed from service but continues to wield influence. Who is behind ignoring this report? I still await an answer.

I will continue the fight against criminal elements within the police and am preparing to pursue the case in the High Court. I will fight to the death. These criminal officers must understand that money cannot shield them,” he concluded.
