New Delhi: In the latest development in the dredger scam involving former DGP Jacob Thomas, the state government stated in the Supreme Court that the investigation team is yet to recover a crucial document linked to the case.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court gave the state two months to complete the investigation and submit a report.

Last month, the state submitted the status report regarding the case in a sealed envelope. Along with this, the state also sought more time to extend the deadline for the investigation.

The advocates representing the state government said that the documents were purported and that even the investigation carried out by the finance department was unable to unearth any concrete proof to support the allegations.

The case pertains to a complaint alleging corruption in the purchase of a dredger from a Holland-based company when Thomas was serving as the Director of the Port Authority. Previously, the High Court dismissed the charges by pointing out that the purchase was made collectively by the Department Purchase Committee, which included three government representatives. Therefore, as per the High Court verdict, the case solely in the name of Thomas would not stand.
