Ankola (Karnataka): A dredger has been dispatched from Goa to resume search for Arjun, the lorry driver from Kozhikode who went missing following a landslide in Shiroor. The dredger left Goa port at 5 am on Tuesday and will reach Karwar port by evening.
A review meeting will be held regarding the mission. After this the dredger will be brought to Shiroor.
The company owner said that the dredger will reach Shiroor only on Wednesday evening as it will take about ten hours to travel from Karwar. If so, the search can start on Thursday itself.
Three people are yet to be found, including Arjun, who went missing following the landslide. Last month, Arjun's family met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He had assured that the dredger would be delivered and the cost would be fully borne by the government.
The cost of delivering the dredger was expected to be Rs 96 lakhs. The cost of running it on the river will be different. The aim is to remove large stones, soil and trees from the area where Arjun's lorry is believed to be at the bottom of the Gangavali river.
The search for Arjun was called off on August 16 due to adverse weather conditions. The Navy had informed that the search would be possible only if the soil and stones at the bottom of the river were removed.
